Schott Duran Glassware

The basic material for most of the products listed is DURAN the borosilicate glass developed by SCHOTT which now represents the standard for laboratory glassware in Australia and all over the world.DURAN is a special borosilicate glass of the first hydrolytic class. Its invention was one of Otto Schott’s great achievements. Laboratory and chemical plant technology would be unthinkable without DURAN tubing, capillary and rod, which provide the basis for custom-made solutions to specific problems.

Products made from DURAN are well-known for their stability, good workability and high thermal shock resistance. DURAN has a very low rate of thermal expansion which makes it an excellent material for laboratory glassware and for use in large-scale technological plants in the chemical apparatus industry in Australia and all over the world.

A comprehensive range of Beakers, Boiling Flasks, Erlenmeyer Flasks, Test Tubes, Distillation Flasks and a variety of other products for use in the laboratory. The main material used in the manufacture of these products is SCHOTT Duran 3.3 low expansion Borosilicate glass.

Low form Beakers and High form Beakers

Imacon Color ScannerSchott Duran beakers are widely used in laboratories. The low form is ideal for heating up contents on laboratory hotplates or Bunsen burners. The tall form is ideal for heating up contents in liquid or sand baths, as the tall shape of the beaker protects its contents from the surrounding medium. There is thus no risk of cross-contamination. Graduated beakers should not be used for volume measurement purposes as the printed scale only indicates the contents within a tolerance of +/-10%.

Burettes

burettesBurettes are used exclusively for titration measurement. The quantity of liquid required for the titration, which is not known in advance, can be read accurately upon completion of the reaction. Schott Duran burettes are calibrated to deliver at a reference temperature of 20°C. The volume content tolerances for burettes meet the accuracy limits of the German weights and measures regulations and the ISO and DIN recommendations. The accuracy limits of the Schott Duran Class B; version are about 1.5 times the accuracy limits of Class AS. They are, therefore, better than required by DIN.

By specifying a Class AS; the German weights and measures regulations within the framework of the 15th Amending Regulations have taken into account that the great majority of volumetric measurements, especially in clinical laboratories, are carried out with water or dilute aqueous solutions; thus apparatus with considerably shorter run-off times than previously required, but with the same accuracy limits, are now accepted for calibration.

Centrifuge tubes

centrifuge_tubes

The difference between Duran centrifuge tubes and other types of tubes is their wall thickness and their sturdy design. They have to withstand the high loads generated in laboratory centrifuges. The mixture to be separated rotates at high speed around an axis in the centrifuge tube. This causes the heavier particles to fly faster and further away from the axis than the lighter ones. This results in separation.

These tubes are approved to DIN 58 970 (Part 2) for a maximum relative centrifugal acceleration of 4000 and filling in line with their capacity with contents having a maximum density of 1.2 g/ml.

Culture flasks

Imacon Color Scanner Schott Duran culture flasks have large bottom surfaces. These should be as flat as possible so that the thickness of the microorganism layer can grow to a uniform height. The cultures are often irradiated with IR or UV light to speed up their growth. Duran flasks are absolutely ideal for this. The following are typical Duran culture flasks:

  • Fernbach flasks Kolle flasks Roux flasks
  • Penicillin flasks

The difference is the shape.

Desiccators

desiccators The Schott Duran desiccator is a laboratory vessel with a ground lid, which is suitable for use under vacuum. It is used for the storage of substances that are sensitive to moisture and for drying moist products. The lower part is divided by a sieve plate and serves as a receptacle for water-absorbent substances such as anhydrous calcium chloride. These drying agents draw out the moisture from the substance to be dried. Drying agents should not be placed directly in the desiccator. Rather, an appropriately sized crystallizing dish should be filled with the drying agent and place it inside. Place the substance to be dried on the sieve plate and close the desiccator tightly. All Duran desiccators are suitable for use under vacuum, i.e. they can be used up to the technically maximum possible vacuum.

Dishes

Imacon Color Scanner There are various types of Schott Duran dishes: evaporating dishes, crystallizing dishes and watch glass dishes.

Evaporating dishes and crystallizing dishes can be used for evaporating liquids and crystallizing out solids respectively. Watch glass dishes are used as weighing dishes and to cover beakers, Erlenmeyer flasks, etc.

Schott Duran Erlenmeyer flasks

Imacon Color Scanner Typical uses for Schott Erlenmeyer flasks include boiling and swirling. They are also used as components in apparatus. Their shape makes them ideal for mixing and storing liquids.

An advantage of the conical shape is that there is little tendency for precipitates to stick to the inside surface as they slide down the wall with the rest of the contents. Duran Erlenmeyer flasks are also used as culture flasks.

Schott Filtering flasks

Imacon Color Scanner Filtering flasks are used for drawing off liquids and vacuum filtration. Duran filtering flasks are available in both conical and cylindrical form. To ensure suitability for use under vacuum they have an appropriate wall thickness. DIN 12 476 prescribes an appropriate pressure test to ensure that items are suitable for use under vacuum. All Schott filtering flasks are suitable for use under vacuum.
Hose connections are available in both plastic and glass (glass tubulature, glass hose connection, plastic hose connection, plastic tubulature). Glass hose connections are no longer approved for use in Germany because of the high risk of injury.

Imacon Color Scanner Filtering flasks are used for drawing off liquids and vacuum filtration. Duran filtering flasks are available in both conical and cylindrical form. To ensure suitability for use under vacuum they have an appropriate wall thickness. All Schott filtering flasks are suitable for use under vacuum, as is described in DIN 12 476, which specifies an appropriate pressure test to ensure that items are suitable for use under vacuum.

The introduction of filtering flasks with a glass hose connection (female) has simplified and facilitated work in preparatory and analytical laboratories. In addition, filtering flasks reduce the risk of accidents.

They have an appropriate wall thickness to ensure suitability for use under vacuum. DIN 12 476 prescribes a pressure test to ensure that items are suitable for use under vacuum. All Schott filtering flasks can be used under vacuum.

Glass hose connections are no longer approved for use in Germany because of the high risk of injury.

Filtering flasks with a ground socket

Imacon Color Scanner

Filtering flasks are used for drawing off liquids and vacuum filtration.

Duran filtering flasks with plastic hose connections and plastic tubulatures provide protection and safety for laboratory workers and the laboratory. Their design makes it easier to fit and remove the vacuum tubing.

Flasks with a ground socket

Imacon Color Scanner Various versions of Duran flasks with a ground socket are used for special tasks. For distillation, fractionation and reaction, multi-neck flasks are used predominantly so that they can be combined with other attachments such as columns, thermometers, dropping funnels, boiling capillaries, etc. Single-neck round bottom flasks are used for simple distillation work and as receiver flasks, for freeze drying, in vacuum apparatus, etc.

Schott Duran Funnels

Imacon Color Scanner Schott funnels are used for filling and filtration. Round paper filters are available for the funnels, which are used for simple filtration. Because of the shape of Duran analytical funnels, they can be used for rapid filtration tasks. A slight vacuum is formed in the hollow chamber on the inside of the funnel, which results in suction being applied to the liquid being filtered.

Gas washing bottles

gas_washing_bottles By distributing gases in liquids through filter disks in Duran gas washing bottles, the efficiency of the absorption can be significantly increased. Gas washing bottles of this type still work reliably even at high flow rates.

Laboratory bottles

lab_bottles Schott laboratory bottles are stable, and like all Duran items, are resistant to chemical attack and highly resistant to thermal shock. When fitted with a pouring ring, dripping is virtually eliminated. As there is only one screw thread size for all bottle sizes from 100 ml and up, the screw caps and pouring rings are totally interchangeable. The bottles, pouring rings and caps can be sterilized.

Pressure resistant (-1/+1.5 bar) and amber stained laboratory bottles are also available. Caps are also available in different colors to facilitate identification in the laboratory.

Schott Duran Measuring cylinders Australia

measuring_cylinders Schott Duran Measuring cylinders are used as receptacles and also for measuring various quantities of liquid. Mixing cylinders can be used for diluting solutions and mixing several components in a given quantity ratio. Schott measuring and mixing cylinders are highly resistant to mechanical and thermal loads. The large hexagonal base with 3 dimples on the bottom increases stability and prevents the cylinder from rolling away.

The cylinders have uniform wall thickness over the entire measuring range, which avoids the risk of errors due to wedging. They are calibrated at a reference temperature of 20°C. Accuracy limits for measuring and mixing cylinders are described in DIN 12 680 and DIN 12 685.

Schott Duran Petri Dishes Australia

Imacon Color Scanner Schott Duran petri dishes are used especially for biological and medical work.
The better the glass surface of the petri dish, the better it is for use under the microscope. It must be flat, so that it can be stacked in minimal space without slipping. Duroplan petri dishes are transparent without distortion and optimally flat.

Schott Duran Pipettes

pipettes Pipettes are used for accurate measurement and the discharging of liquids. It is possible to discharge only specific quantities with bulb pipettes. Graduated pipettes, however, enable different quantities of liquid to be taken up which can then be discharged in part or entirely. Duran pipettes are calibrated to deliver at a reference temperature of 20°C. The volume content tolerances for etchable pipettes meet the accuracy limits of the German weights and measures regulations and the ISO and DIN recommendations. The accuracy limits of the Schott Duran Class (B) version are about 1.5 times the accuracy limits of ClassA. They are, therefore, better than required by DIN.

Reagent bottles

Imacon Color Scanner Schott Duran reagent bottles are available in both wide neck and narrow neck form. Narrow neck bottles are ideal for the storage of liquids, since liquids are easier to pour from a narrow neck. Wide neck bottles are used for the storage of powders, since powders do not block large diameter neck. Amber reagent bottles are particularly suited to the storage of light-sensitive substances. Thus, there is no need to store them in dark places or closets.
